Augustine of Hippo (354-430) - Back Return to "Gary's Personal Creed."

Augustine was an Algerian who studied in Carthage, Rome and elsewhere while the earth was flat and the Roman empire ruled. Augustine was a neo-Platonist, i.e., he tried to improve on Plato's arguments (which are also flat earth based) by inserting the new understanding of God. Augustine helped to describe our ideas of the Holy Trinity, original sin and "just" wars. In the fifth century CE, Augustine read the Bible in a very literal way, and his sermons indicate that there wasn't much argument about that. Augustine is revered by Roman Catholics and Protestants alike.
